Position Overview:
The Deputy Project Director of the Moyens de Subsistance Transformés (MOST) project assists Pact’s Senior Technical Manager, who functions as the MOST Project Director, in overseeing and guiding the project’s management and execution. MOST is a two-year cross-border artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) livelihoods and stabilization initiative that forms part of GIZ’s broader Borderlands project in Mali, Guinea, and Senegal. It is financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Technical Leadership and Field Engagement:
She/he will oversee and coordinate Pact’s project activities in Mali, including the supervision of part-time personnel and a local partner. In collaboration with the Project Director, they will provide technical guidance, oversee monitoring activities, and conduct in-country visits to support collaborators in Guinea and Senegal. The position involves coordinating and jointly facilitating training sessions and seminars, offering technical expertise on ASGM governance, formalization, livelihoods, responsible mining practices, and occupational health and safety. Depending on security conditions, the role will also encompass field visits to engage stakeholders, gather data, and provide training and technical assistance.

- Spearhead the primary activities of the MOST project in Mali and offer technical assistance in Guinea and Senegal.
- Regularly monitor Mali’s gold extraction industry and compile reports for the Project Director.
- Oversee the implementation of the Mali project, including personnel management and collaboration with partner FEMIMA.
- Establish and sustain effective relationships with government entities, civil society organizations, communities, and partners.
- Supervise the budget and expenditures of the Mali initiative in collaboration with the finance department.

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and over seven years of pertinent experience or an equivalent blend of education and experience, including at least three years of managerial experience.
- A minimum of five years of professional experience engaging with stakeholders in Mali’s artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector, including collaboration with ASGM communities, government authorities, and international partners.
- Previous engagements with the Ministry of Mines, as well as with ASGM stakeholders in Cercle de Kenieba, Cercle de Kangaba, and Cercle de Yanfolila.
- Proficiency in both spoken and written French, as well as fluency in at least one language spoken in Mali.
- Malaysian national.
- Exceptional interpersonal abilities, a collaborative mindset, and a dedication to involving rural communities.
