Job Overview:

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a prominent global conservation organization, is seeking a Program Officer (PO) to join its Great Plains team in support of the Great Plains Wildlife Initiative (GPWI). Collaborating closely with fellow WWF staff, the PO will develop and sustain relationships with principal stakeholders involved in locally driven initiatives to restore and conserve bison, black-footed ferrets, prairie dogs, beavers, and their habitats within the U.S. Great Plains ecoregion.

These partners may encompass Tribal, federal, and state agencies, private landowners and administrators, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), elected officials, academic institutions, and private enterprises. The PO will offer technical and financial support to key partners and will also contribute to WWF’s and partners’ fundraising initiatives in pursuit of our common wildlife conservation objectives. This position will predominantly concentrate on bison restoration, with potential opportunities for black-footed ferret and beaver conservation.

• Assists the GPWI team in achieving objectives related to the restoration of bison and other keystone or endangered species.
• Establishes and enhances relationships with communities, landowners, and land administrators to facilitate collaboration with WWF.

• Offers technical support, strategic guidance, implementation, oversight, fundraising, communications, data administration, and program evaluation.

Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in overseeing conservation initiatives within the Great Plains, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the region’s ecology.
• Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with Native nations and rural communities, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and respect.
• Extensive understanding of conservation practices and fundamental principles.
• Proficient in overseeing intricate, multi-stakeholder initiatives involving multiple partners.
• Proficient in proposal development, grant administration, and donor relations.
• Robust strategic thinking capabilities and the ability to integrate feedback from colleagues and evaluators.
• Excellent investigation, analytical, and project management competencies.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking on ecological subjects.
• Excellent interpersonal abilities; capable of working autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Experience managing consultants, contractors, grantees, and trainees or technicians.
• Exceptional organizational and time management abilities; proficient in prioritizing tasks and adhering to deadlines.

• Open to traveling 25–50% within the Great Plains region, including remote areas.
