The position is provided by the International Potato Center (CIP), which acts as the Management Contractor for the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) of the World Bank. CIP offers technical assistance and capacity development to the Soroti Sweetpotato Producers and Processors Association (SOSPPA) in Uganda, emphasizing agricultural production, processing, value addition, and governance enhancement.

Job Overview:

The position is for a Driver located in Uganda to provide support for the GAFSP initiative under the International Potato Center (CIP). This is a full-time position centered on field responsibilities, mainly involving operating project vehicles to transport personnel, performing routine vehicle inspections and maintenance, ensuring adherence to road safety regulations, maintaining precise logbooks, and supporting project deployment in rural regions. The driver will also notify of any vehicle problems or incidents and assist with daily operational requirements as assigned.

Responsibilities of Driver Jobs in Uganda:

• Ensure that project vehicles are maintained in a tidy and roadworthy condition;
• Verify the vehicle’s condition and requirements, and ensure the Logbook is accurately completed;
• Ensure that the utilization of project vehicles complies with the CIP motor vehicle policy.
• Operate vehicles in a safe and respectful manner, consistently adhering to established road safety standards;
• Perform routine vehicle inspections, including tests on oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and other essential components, and promptly report any identified defects to the Supervisor.
• Ensure consistent maintenance and servicing of project vehicles through reputable service providers;
• Report accidents or incidents to the Supervisor promptly.
• Operate project vehicles to facilitate the transportation of project personnel for the execution of field activities in the designated target countries.
• Prepare the monthly summary of the project vehicles’ logbooks and distribute it to the office administrative assistant.
• Ensure adherence to the CIP driving policy in the event of an accident;
• Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the supervisor

Selection Criteria:

• Valid driver’s license; A minimum of three years of comparable experience with a clean driving record is required.
• Understanding of traffic laws and regulations;
• Proficiency in basic automotive mechanics and the capacity to perform minor repairs and maintenance in the event of a malfunction will be considered an advantageous qualification.
• Proficient in computer skills and well-versed in MS Office applications;
• Capacity to adapt to diverse work environments and collaborate effectively within a team;
• Proven experience operating 4×4 vehicles over extensive distances and challenging terrains;
• Experience in collaborating with international organizations is considered an additional advantage;
• Willingness to dedicate substantial time laboring in field conditions within rural areas
